Import conditions · Australia

Importing Japanese Wagyu into Australia.

Japanese beef is eligible for the Australian market, with an import permit per consignment. A cut restriction currently applies — see the scope note below. These are the conditions we work to, confirmed per shipment.

Eligibility
Japanese beef is permitted into Australia, from cattle born, raised and slaughtered in Japan, with no age limit. A restriction on eligible cuts currently applies — see the scope note below.
Documents
Japan's meat sanitary certificate and AQS export quarantine certificate, plus the import permit the Australian importer obtains from the federal agriculture department. The documents required are confirmed per shipment.
Facility
Slaughter and processing run through establishments approved by MHLW for export to Australia, to requirements equivalent to those for the United States. We confirm the specific facility per shipment.
Tariff
Japanese beef and beef products enter Australia free of customs duty. We confirm the current treatment per shipment.
Chilled / frozen
Both supported; chilled at 0–4°C, frozen at −18°C or below, unbroken to the destination.
Clearance
Document check and inspection by the federal agriculture department on arrival, against the conditions on the import permit.

About these conditions

This is general guidance, not a guarantee. Import eligibility, documents, tariff treatment and clearance times change — we confirm the current requirements for your market on each shipment, and source to order. Nothing here implies stock held in your market.

Scope

Australia currently restricts eligible product to boneless skeletal muscle, which excludes bone-in items and offal. This changes the cut mix that can be quoted for Australia, so tell us what you need and we will confirm what is workable before proposing anything.
